Words

A simple sharing of thoughts can greatly impact our future especially the words we speak during the conversation. At first they may seem like nothing, but the next day it’s all over the news. Words can put the innocent in jail. Words are the most powerful weapons on earth; they can start wars, conflicts, and death. Words are weapons. In the film “The Dark Night” the Joker a manipulative, psychotic, terrorist, killer is able to turn all citizens of Gotham against the one person who wanted to help, Batman. In a few weeks Batman’s reputation was destroyed. People were paying people to kill batman and anyone who had a connection to him. The Joker turned every one against Batman by just stating a threat that “someone will die every day until Batman turns himself in.” Words are ticking time bombs that can cause a chaotic impact on anyone. Schools are full of people armed with dangerous rumors that can make the most popular into the least popular. This is better explained in the novel SPEAK Melinda is a freshman at her high school her friends despise her for calling the cops on a summer party. People thought that she called the police because of the alcohol at the party. The truth is Melinda was raped at the party by a student at her high school, and she called the police to report this. During the course of the year though she decides to literally say nothing at all. All she needed to do though was speak. The only cure to a rumor is the truth. In the short story “The Lie” Ellie has failed his entry exam into his families boarding school. The impact was devastating on his family. His father tried to bribe his son into the school because it was a family tradition for all boys to go to the school. If his father had succeeded his son would fail everything which would permanently destroy Ellie’s chances of college. His father was the true liar. He lied to himself and his family about giving people special treatment. People will sometimes go back on what they say, even if it is a simple task. Words are the key in trying to achieve anything. The Joker used words in an attempt to kill Batman, Melinda used words to save herself from being raped again by the same person. Ellie used words to lie to his family so they wouldn’t be ashamed of him. All things happen for a reason and can greatly affect the future, we have the power to change it. All it takes is a few words to set things in motion.
